Excessive Sweat - Are You Struggling This Summer?

Are you wondering if your sweating is normal or too much? Since excessive sweat can bring about odor or spoil a well-groomed image, it is not surprising that people become self-conscious when they perspire. But how do you distinguish between normal and too much sweating? When should you see a doctor?

Make The Room Temperature a Bit Cooler

Take note of the environment you are in. You may think you suffer from excessive sweat when it is actually the atmosphere that is making you perspire more than usual. Your body may have adjusted to your warm office, so you tend to ignore it as the cause of your excessive sweat. Listen to comments from visitors when they say your room is warm. Then lower the thermostat to cool your office or put a small fan on your desk. An ideal room temperature is usually 72 degrees Fahrenheit, so try that and see if you still sweat as much.

Chose Better Fabrics

Examine too the clothes you are wearing. Your choice of fabrics is an important factor in making you perspire. Wool, polyester and nylon keep the body heat in and contribute to excessive sweat. Replace them with cotton and linen fabrics instead.

If the room temperature has been adjusted and you have been wearing the recommended clothes but you still have excessive sweat, check your health condition.

Have You Packed On the Pounds?

Being overweight can make you perspire because your body fat is trapping the heat inside you. Get a medical check-up to rule out hormonal imbalance, thyroid problems and other possible causes. Menopause can also cause confusion to your biological system and may trigger excessive sweat. If, after a thorough examination, you are cleared of medical problems, it’s time to consider some other factors which could be the culprit in making you sweat more than normal.

Do You Sweat All Over or is it Localised?

When excessive sweat occurs, observe the areas in your body that are affected. Is it your entire body or do you sweat more in some areas than in others? Armpits and backs are common places for excessive sweat, but what about your legs, the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet? Does your sweat soak through your clothes even without physical activity?

The sweat glands in areas that are prone to excessive sweat may be hyperactive and disrupt your body’s ability to control sweating. If you have followed all the advice given and have been given a clean bill of health but still perspire a lot, then you need to see a doctor. He can order medical tests for you and manage your problem. He is the right person to ask about the cause of your excessive sweat and he can give you treatment options as well. There might be topical medications he will prescribe which are effective and different from what you might have bought at the pharmacy.
